On a recent trip to California — the Bay Area and Big Sur — I shot these landscapes. A good landscape is always a terrific backdrop for a portrait, though I didn’t have any brides or grooms on hand to prove my point at the time. But just imagine!

This couple took their vows at lakeside on a beautiful late-summer day, and then they proceeded up the lawn to a reception at the Fontainebleau Inn in Alpine, New York.
The rains ended and the sun shone on an outdoor ceremony conducted inside a circular arena of seats, and then a reception followed inside a tent–all of this on the spacious grounds of the bride’s grandmother. Though the bride did not grow up in this area, she’d always wanted to be married on this estate.
After preparations at Geneva on the Lake in Geneva, New York, a nuptial Mass was held at St. Hyacinth Church in Auburn. The couple and the wedding party returned to Geneva for a photo shoot, and then they proceeded to a reception at Ventosa Vineyards.
